CHALLENGE
A worldwide harvesting equipment manufacturer approached DISTek with the desire to convert their existing and future combine equipment from using proprietary displays to utilizing ISOBUS. The client wanted to commonize their UI and software stacks across their products, as well as increase compatibility with other agricultural equipment. Since the client had no in-house experience with ISOBUS, they chose to rely solely on DISTek’s expertise and experience for guidance and support during this transition.
The DISTek team was tasked with developing an implementation plan, executing development, testing of an ISOBUS solution, and training for the client’s engineering team.
SOLUTION
The DISTek team worked collaboratively with the client to support the following initiatives:
- Develop a common foundation for both their display UI and their ISOBUS software project framework
- Develop and test two fully functional display applications
- Cross-train the client team on ISOBUS concepts and best practices
In order to implement these initiatives, DISTek first focused on evaluating and making improvements to the client workflow process for increased efficiency and collaboration. The team then created project templates utilizing an ISOBUS framework and began technical knowledge sharing. Next, the team moved forward with collaboration with the client to write software to allow operator control of combine header operations. The DISTek team and the client also worked side by side to field test our applications and to evaluate our ISOBUS compliance across many different virtual terminal manufacturers at AEF ISOBUS Plugfest.
RESULTS
Through DISTek’s efforts, the client has standardized on ISOBUS solutions and now has the existing project framework and in-house knowledge to develop more ISOBUS-compatible products successfully and independently in the future.
