DISTek was founded in 1992 by Matt Dickinson in the basement of his home in a St. Louis, Missouri, suburb. The name DISTek comes from a spin-off of Dickinson Integration, Software, and Teknologies and was one of the first he thought of that passed muster with the Missouri Department of Commerce (this is, nobody else had taken it yet!).
During his 27 years of selfless service, Matt truly led with a business philosophy of “employees first.” His legacy of deeply caring for his employees continues today and serves as a cornerstone of DISTek culture. As a testament to Matt’s commitment to his employees, upon his retirement in 2019, rather than selling DISTek externally, he converted the company into a 100% employee-owned ESOP. As a way to honor his legacy, the Matt Dickinson Employee Ownership Award was created. It is awarded annually to an employee owner who emulates Matt’s example and truly lives the DISTek Way.
